Lender/Mortgage 101-What Can You Afford?

Mortgage=Death Pledge

The term comes from Old French, and Latin before that, to literally mean “Death Pledge”. Make sure you are in good hands from the start.

A home is likely the single biggest purchase you will likely make. Each mortgage is unique- based on you!
Do your homework, compare costs, and get prepared.

What you can afford will depend on your income and expenses—as well as your credit rating, the down payment amount and mortgage interest rates. Banks and lenders use specific criteria to determine how much of a mortgage they’re willing to offer you. They assess your income, expenses, credit history and employment status, as well as the down payment you plan to make on a home. It may feel like an intimidating process, but it is quite straightforward. You can usually get a Mortgage Pre-Approval in a day (see documents to gather at the bottom of the page). You’ll be glad you did!
